What is a yearly wellness visit?
An annual or semi-annual wellness visit is a visit focused on your pet’s wellness. It is the visit that focuses on making sure that your pet’s preventative wellness needs are met. These are things that help to ensure your pet is protected from common viruses, pathogens, and parasites. It is also a visit focused on early detection of health and behavior issues.
What is done during a yearly wellness visit?
Every patient is unique. The needs of a 7-year-old couch potato pooch are very different from those of a 2-year-old doggie daycare diva. That’s why we treat them based on their exact needs and lifestyle, developing ongoing wellness plans based on up-to-date diagnostics and examinations.
To stay informed about your pet’s condition, the visit starts with the collection of information about your pet. Topics may include past medical history, lifestyle, diet, current medical or behavioral concerns, any changes that have occurred since your pet’s last visit, and more. Your pet will then have a physical examination. Once this is complete we will combine all of the information to come up with a plan that meets the needs of you and your pet. Suggested items may include things like vaccines, parasite testing, baseline testing, and parasite prevention.
Why is a yearly visit important?
Our pets age much more rapidly than we do. A lot can change in a year of their lifespan. An annual or semi-annual wellness visit allows our veterinarian to get updated on your pet, perform a thorough exam on it, and update their medical needs. We hope we will find your pet is happy and healthy, but the exam may uncover issues that you were unaware of.
Catching health and behavior issues early allows us to address them to cure or slow their progression. Staying up-to-date on your pet’s vaccines, parasite prevention, parasite testing, and wellness testing helps to keep you and your pets safe.
